Storage Check allows to know total MBs used by installed apps and possibly make the house cleaning, making it useful especially for users with 8GB model.
Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia has announced a new application exclusively for its Windows Phone 8 powered Lumia devices that allows you to keep track of the space occupied by the content stored on the smartphone. Storage Check is especially useful for users who have purchased one of the models with 8GB of storage as it shows the temporary files, also allowing you to remove them with a simple tap.
Although, Microsoft offers 7GB of free storage on SkyDrive with all Nokia Lumia devices, but it is more convenient to store images, videos or music files directly on the device. The available space decrease rapidly and in some cases, it becomes necessary to remove some apps too. Storage Check also allows you to know the total MBs used by installed apps and possibly make the house cleaning.
The Storage Check app is accessible from the phone settings, shows a wheel into colored sections, each of which represents a type of content (apps, multimedia files, system files and free space). The center of the wheel represents the total space and the used space. With a swipe to the left leads to another page, in which you can see the space occupied by the photos, videos, music, office documents and any single application in detail. Just long press on the name in the list to uninstall an app.
Samuli Hänninen, Vice President, applications for Smart Devices, explains in a blog post
“We want to ensure that Nokia Lumia users receive the best and latest functionality for their smartphones, and we often deliver these as software updates or exclusive apps.
“Storage Check helps people control what’s on their phones in a simple, fast and effective way.”
Storage Check will be gradually made available for all Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 8 via a firmware update or standalone version.
