Sony’s forthcoming flagship the Xperia Z5 will feature a 4K screen, confirms Sony’s marketing director in a video leaked on a French journal. This would mark the first Xperia flagship to come with a 4K UHD display. In the video, he mentions that the company will be releasing two flagships this year, one with a 5.2-inch screen will be the Xperia Z5, while the one with a 5.5-inch screen will be called the Xperia ‘Z5 Premium’ which the video leaked largely focuses on. Some reports also suggest that there’ll be a Xperia Z5 Compact.
Hence, the Xperia Z5 Premium will be the first of its kind in the market from the company’s stables featuring a 5.5-inch 4K UHD display, while its smaller sibling the Xperia Z5 will have a 5.2-inch 1080p display. Both smartphones are expected to feature 23MP primary camera claimed to have the fastest AF feature in the market with a speed of 0.03 seconds along with 5X digital zoom.
Meanwhile, the forthcoming flagships will also retain their waterproof and dust-proof certification just like their predecessor Z3+, though there’s a small catch to it, as the micro-USB port on the upcoming flagships will be just as waterproof without the flap.
In terms of design, the upcoming flagships will sport an all metal aluminum body and retain Sony’s OmiBalance design language, though the Xperia logo this time gets emblazoned on the side giving it more niche look. The Xperia Z5 will also be the first phone from the company to feature a fingerprint scanner, though surprisingly it gets mounted on the side which is a rather unusual spot to find a fingerprint sensor.
While in terms of specs, these devices are expected to get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset bundled with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and an 8MP selfie camera. The upcoming flagships are also said to have 2 days of battery life, which we would believe given the impressive track record of Sony smartphones in terms of battery life.
The latest leak comes just a few days before the IFA 2015 trade show all set to happen later this week, where we can expect an official unveiling of Sony’s new flagships. We’ll be bringing you live updates from Europe’s largest trade electronics show, hence stay tuned watch out this space for more updates.
