For what seems like it’ has happened for the first time, Sony unveiled a trio of handsets with its flagship Xperia Z5, a mini variant in the form of Xperia Z5 Compact and supposedly the cream of the crop the Xperia 5 Premium, which becomes the first device from Sony featuring a 4K display.
The Xperia Z5 Compact, as the name suggests gets a smaller 4.6 inch HD display as opposed to the flagship and premium versions – the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium which get a 5.2 inch Full HD and a 5.5 inch QHD display respectively.
While powering the trio will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset bundled with Adreno 430 GPU and 3GB of RAM, though the compact variant gets only 2GB of RAM. All these smartphones come with 32GB of onboard storage while the Z5 Premium allows users to add upto 200GB via microSD slot for that 4K content.

Optics on the devices includes a 23MP primary camera unit with Sony Exmor RS sensor featuring a 1/2.3 inch sensor size. In terms of battery, the Xperia Z5 sports a 2900 mAh battery, the Z5 Compact gets 2600 mAh battery while the premium version gets 3430 mAh, which the company claims can offer up to 2 days of battery life. All the phones will be running Google’s Android 5.1.1 with Sony UI layering atop and also include a fingerprint scanner, housed on the side of these devices instead of the home button.
And just like its predecessors, the forthcoming Xperia Z5 range retain their water-proof capabilities and also feature the same omni-balance design language first featured on the Xperia Z1. These devices appear rather polished, complimented with carefully selected color tones and materials.
The Z5 Premium will be available in black, gold and chrome color options sporting a mirrored glass back while the Z5 will be available in white, black and green color schemes featuring a frosted glass back. While it seems, Sony is targeting young users with the Z5 Compact. Along with the usual white and black color schemes, it’ll also come in vibrant yellow and coral pink color tones, featuring a frosted glass back.
Coming on to the pricing, Sony has not yet officially announced the price of these devices.
