LG has announced a high-end waterproof variant of its flagship LG Optimus G called LG Optimus GJ. The phone is currently available in Taiwan for NT$17,990.
Ever since Sony introduced its high-end waterproof & dust resistant Sony Xperia Z at CES, we have seen many other mobile giants taking the dive into waterproofing to appeal more customers by their unique water & dust resistant products. After Sony’s Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and Samsung’s most rumored Galaxy S4 Active, LG has also become part of this lineup with new Optimus GJ.
Recently, LG has announced a high-end waterproof variant of its flagship LG Optimus G called LG Optimus GJ. LG has improved the water proofing on the device due to which it can withstand under 1 meter (about 3.2 feet) of water for 30 minutes without any fear of getting damaged. Its IPX5 / IPX7 waterproof certification verifies this ability. The phone is currently available in Taiwan for NT$17,990 (US$600) and the interested buyers can get their hands on it by the next month.
This new smartphone is just like its sibling Optimus G with some contrast. Apart from the impressive waterproofing feature, the noticeable difference can be seen in the size of these two models. The 136.9 x 68.9 x 9.9mm Optimus GJ is slightly larger and thicker than the 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.5 mm Optimus G. However, both the devices have a lot of specs & features in common.
Certainly, LG Optimus GJ is ready to compete against Sony’s Xperia Z & Xperia ZR with its remarkable hardware configuration. It sports a 4.7-inch True IPS Plus HD display having 720p resolution. It is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, 2GB of on-board RAM. It has 16GB of internal storage, MicroSD card slot and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of box.
Optimus GJ comes with a 13-megapixel primary and 1.3-megapixel front camera. It features 2,280mAh battery and has support for Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
LG Optimus GJ will be made available in Taiwan starting from June this year. The willing customers can buy either black or black/red variants of the smartphone for $600. For the moment, we don’t have any details about the global availability of the device, but we hope that LG will soon reveal these details in the near future.
