Sony has finally slashed the price of its PS4 console in the US and Canada, which will now be available for $349 and $429 respectively. Moreover, it’ll come bundled with a copy of either Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection or Star Wars Battlefront.
Earlier, these PlayStation 4 bundles were sold for $399.99 in the US and $449.99 in Canada. A few other console and game bundles have also been witnessed price drops in the US. As the PS4 with Limited Edition Call of Duty: Black Ops III or NHL 16 is now available for $430, while the Limited Edition Disney Infinity 3.0: Star Wars or Star Wars Battlefront is now priced at $400.
Starting today, the Sony PlayStation 4 will be offered at the discounted price mentioned above, putting the console in the same price bracket as its rival – the Xbox One.
“Our goal at PlayStation has always been to provide the best gameplay experiences at the best value, and we feel this new compelling price will open the doors to even more gamers that have yet to purchase a system,” said John Koller, VP of Platforms Marketing, SCEA.
The price drop comes after Sony announced a similar price cut in Japan earlier this month, slashing the price of the console by 10 percent. However, the Japanese electronics giant says it has nothing to announce regarding price drops in Europe or other parts of the world.
Since its launch back in November 2013, the PlayStation 4 has become the largest selling among the current generation of consoles. As of March 2015, Sony has reportedly sold more than a whopping 20.2 million units of the PS4 and plans to ship 16.5 million for the current financial year that ends in March next year.
Meanwhile, SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America) also announced on Thursday that its Universal Media Remote for the PS4 will also be available in the US, Canada and Mexico ‘later this month’ for $30, and can be pre-ordered now. The remote essentially replaces the regular DualShock 4 for non-gaming applications.
“We all love DualShock 4, but sometimes when you’re watching movies, you just want a remote,” wrote Sony’s Anand Agarwal in a blog post.
The device comes with Bluetooth capabilities to control the PS4, and can also be used to control three more AV devices. Moreover, it can also be used to control a number of popular streaming apps and services including Netflix, HBO Go, Twitch, YouTube, NFL Sunday Ticket, NBA GAME TIME, Crunchyroll and more.
