OnePlus appears to have confirmed the name of its next smartphone via a Weibo post. Earlier rumored as the One Plus Mini, the device could be called the OnePlus X. As in the teaser posted by the company’s CEO Pete Lau, clearly shows a screenshot of a map with the letter ‘X’ marked on it. While this is not an official confirmation, it’s still seemingly a pretty good indication as to what the upcoming device will be named. And going by the company’s trend for using short nomenclatures for its devices, the teaser posted might indeed be for the OnePlus ‘X’ smartphone.
Based on the latest rumors, the device is expected to feature a 5-inch Full HD display, while innards expected on the device include a MediaTek MT6795 SoC which is bundled with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM along with 32GB of expandable storage.
In terms of optics, the device is expected to get a 13MP rear camera with Sony IMX258 sensor along with f/2.0 aperture. While on the front it is likely to feature a 5MP camera. Juicing up the handset is rumored to be a 3000-3100mAh non-removable battery. Other features are expected to include USB Type-C, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, and Wi-Fi. Moreover, unlike the flagship OnePlus 2, the OnePlus X is also expected to get a fingerprint scanner on the back instead of a home button.
In other related news, the company has also announced a media event titled ‘The Next Big Step,’ which possibly suggests that the device may be unveiled very soon. OnePlus has already started sending invites for an event scheduled for October 12 in Bangalore, India. The event will be hosted co-founder of OnePlus Peter Lau alongside GM of OnePlus India Vikas Agarwal.
There’s also a high possibility that the event might primarily focus on the ‘Make in India’ initiative recently announced by Indian Prime Mr. Narendra Modi. The Chinese manufacturer is one of the few companies who are a part of this new initiative, as the Indian government is now offering various incentives to companies who’ll manufacture devices in the country.
Meanwhile, you can also grab a OnePlus 2 right now without worrying about those infuriating invites. As the company has also announced that its OnePlus 2 smartphone will be available on an invite-free basis, though only for an hour.
On October 12, the device will be sold via the flash sales model starting at 12 noon in HKT, CEST and PDT time zones. However, the company hasn’t confirmed whether this will be valid in the US or the UK. Interested users can order two phones per transaction and can order as many times they want. Though it’s worth pointing out that the manufacturer’s flash sale models in the past have led to systems crashing.
