Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed on Twitter a Remote Play app for PCs as well as Macs is in the works. Notably, the announcement comes shortly after a third party developer launched a native app that allows PS4 games to be streamed on a PC. Dubbed as Remote Paly, the feature is currently only limited to the PlayStation Vita and new Xperia smartphones, and it seems the feature will soon be coming to PCs along with Macs. However, the company has not yet announced a specific launch date for the app.
It’ll essentially work in the same way Xbox One does on a Windows 10 PC, though Sony will need to integrate DualShock 4 compatibility as many PS4 games require the use of more or less every input. As for compatible smartphones and tablets, Sony sells a PS4 DualShock 4 mount so that players get the desired gameplay experience.
Regardless, this is bad news for the third party app developer who goes by alias Twisted. He launched his PS4 Remote Play PC app for around $10 on Wednesday.
“The only way to support this is to charge for the app, all my previous projects have been free and I do not want to have to but sadly its [sic] the only way to support my living costs,” Twisted said in a blog post.
While in other related news, Sony recently also announced that it has sold 30.2 million units of the PS4, making it the fastest selling console in the company’s history. The figure takes into account console sales in all regions across the globe which include Asia, Europe, Japan, North America and Latin America as of November 22.
