A new report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News claims that Apple might launch a revamped MacBook Air at the upcoming Worldwide Developer’s Conference. The report suggests that new 13-inch and 15-inch versions of the MacBook Air are in the pipeline and area expected to be launched in Q3 2016 which corresponds to a spring or summer timeline. The Taiwanese publication also notes that it’s been eight years since the launch of MacBook Air and in that time it hasn’t received a design upgrade. Hence, it’s high time that gets a makeover.
The upcoming models of the MacBook Air are expected to get more slimmer, though at this point it’s unclear whether the 11-inch model will also be announced. The slimmer form factor will be achieved by “fully redesigned” internals, as the company is now working with its suppliers to manufacture these redesigned components. However, the report gives no further details apart from the fact that the upcoming MacBook range will be slimmer, lighter with redesigned components.
As far as pricing is concerned, the Economic Daily Report adds that the new MacBook Air will cost more than the current models when it launches, though did not mention a specific price range.
The Taiwanese publication does have a random track record when it comes to Apple Rumors, so at this point we can’t be sure whether the report is right or wrong. though, several analysts so believe that the MacBook Air will soon see its demise when the new MacBook was launched back in March. Hence, there’s a high probability that the MacBook Air could be discontinued and be replaced by the rumored Retina MacBook range in the coming years.
In other related news, Apple is reportedly planning to ditch the conventional 3.5mm headphone jack and replace it will Lightning-only port in its upcoming iPhones. By doing so, the company can reduce the thickness of the smartphone by an additional 1mm.
