Samsung Galaxy S7 Rumor Roundup: What we know so far

The latest report coming out of South Korea suggests that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 will be released in two different screen sizes.

According to ET News, one of them will be the standard 5.2-inch version, while the other would an Edge variant with a 5.5-inch curved display. While earlier rumors also suggested that the Galaxy S7 will also get a 5.7-inch variant, the same screen size found on the S6 Edge Plus.

In addition, ET News also reports that the Korean giant is planning an initial run of approximately 5 million Galaxy S7 units. These 5 million units will be split into two – 3.3 million units for the standard Galaxy S7 and 1.6 million units for its Edge variant, with production expected to begin in February.

Earlier reports also indicated that the upcoming flagship may also witness price cuts. China-based analyst Pan Jiutand said that the company is expected to slash the prices of its next flagship by 10 percent compared to the current Galaxy S6.

Meanwhile, there’re also rumors that Samsung’s next flagship will also come in two different variants with different chipsets. One of them is rumored to get Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8890 processor while the other is expected to house Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC. Reports also suggest that Samsung has found a solution to the overheating issues prevalent with Snapdragon 820 SoCs, as the company has installed new heating pipes in the device to dissipate heat more efficiently.

Talking about design, Samsung is expected to retain the same design aesthetics as that of the Galaxy S6, which were rather applauded by experts and consumers alike. The Korean manufacturer it seems will use a delicate mix of metal and glass we see in the Galaxy S6 and its Edge variant.

And given the fast-paced adoption of USB Type-C ports, Samsung will reportedly use the conventional USB ports along with Type C USB ports in the upcoming flagship, and also feature a pressure sensitive screen like Apple’s 3D Touch. We can expect the device to be unveiled sometime in March.
