Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is now on a quest to build an AI butler, just like Jarvis in Iron Man. Zuckerberg now aged 31, commits to a new personal challenge every year. He revealed in a Facebook post that his goal for 2016 would be an AI butler to help him manage his home and daily chores.
“Every year, I take on a personal challenge to learn new things and grow outside my work at Facebook. My challenges in recent years have been to read two books every month, learn Mandarin and meet a new person every day,” Zuckerberg wrote. “My personal challenge for 2016 is to build a simple AI to run my home and help me with my work. You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man.”
He added that he would build the AI butler with technology already available and then teach it voice commands to control things at homes such as music, lights and temperature. He also plans to equip the assistant to let family and friends into his house by looking at their faces. He said that his AI assistant will visualize data to help Zuckerberg at work.
Now that’s a rather ambitious personal goal for the new year, as in the past his personal challenges have included learning Mandarin and reading two books every month. It’ll be interesting to see how much and investment and priority Zuckerberg gives to this project, and more importantly what will be the final outcome.
Mark Zuckerberg essentially acknowledges the fact that his JARVIS inspired AI bot will be a lot simpler. As opposed to the movie in which JARVIS is an ultra advanced personal digital assistant. In the Hollywood blockbuster Iron Man, JARVIS stands for “Just A Rather Very Intelligent System”, who allows his master Tony Stark to control and command from any location be it office, home, car or mobile devices.
