Facebook to introduce new features on WhatsApp, might launch on Windows and Mac

Facebook is believed to be working on an update for its WhatsApp messaging app which includes the ability to send zip files as attachments along with support for call backs and voicemails.

The report which first appeared on the site Phone Radar further mentioned the voicemail feature will only be introduced on the iOS version of its app to begin with. However, there seems quite a bit of confusion about what its scope will be like in reality. That said, it is being speculated there will be a “Record Voice Mail” and a “Send Voice Mail” button popping up each time there is a voice call. Needless the say, one of the buttons should allow the user to record the voice mail while the other should enable sending an in-call audio clip and such.

As for the call back feature, users will be served a dedicated “Call Back” button for users to respond to a missed call. Further, the button will be present right in the notification that the missed call generates, thereby saving the user from having to launch the WhatsApp application all over again to return back a missed call. Also, unlike the voicemail feature, call back is expected to debut on both Android and iOS apps.

Another convenient feature that WhatsApp users can look forward to is support for ZIP files. This will allow users to compress large files before sending, thereby saving on data charges. As things stand right now, WhatsApp already is compliant with text formats such as PDF, VCF, DOCX and DOCS.

Meanwhile, in another development, there also are reports of the popular messaging platform being introduced on Windows and Mac as well. Facebook has already shown its commitment for the Microsoft OS by making available its entire service on Windows 10. That includes Facebook Messenger and Instagram along with the core social networking app of Facebook on Windows 10 recently. Launching WhatsApp on Windows 10 (as well as Mac) could well be seen as a further build-up on that.

The report has its origins in the WABetaInfo Twitter account, which seems to have inkling about future WhatsApp builds and releases.
