According to numerous reports coming in, social networking giant Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) has introduced a new feature that allows users post videos as comments. The feature is rolled out on Android, iOS and web platforms. Interestingly, without any limitations by the company, this feature now works on each and every post appearing on profiles, pages, and groups.
As stated by Facebook Engineer Bob Baldwin, this feature became the reality at a recent Hackathon organized by the company. Baldwin later headed the team that made this whole thing possible to integrate within Facebook. The team consists of four members who worked on all three platforms (Android, iOS, and the web).
Uploading videos as comments is pretty simple. All you need to do is tap on the camera icon next to the comment field and then select a video to upload. Needless to say, this is exactly how we upload pictures on comments. However, as a change, now you will also get an option for videos.
“At the hackathon, we coded as quickly as we could all day, and by the evening, we could feel the pieces starting to come together. A little past midnight, we had the feature mostly working on both desktop and mobile apps. And when we demoed our hack to fellow employees the following week, they loved it,” said Bob Baldwin in his Facebook note.
However, this wasn’t the first hackathon that got Baldwin, a team to lead. Previously, Baldwin has worked with several teams that must have made him and the entire company proud for building features such as photo comments as well as sticker comments on all widely-used Facebook platforms.
As obvious as it may sound, Facebook always seems to possess a biased love towards videos, especially since it brought many significant changes to videos in the recent months – whether it be 360-degree videos, Facebook Live, or anything else.
Facebook just can’t let Google’s YouTube dominate this whole modern-day digital world, and to prevent YouTube from doing that, Facebook has to bring in as many improvements as possible.
