Microsoft has unveiled a new lighter and smaller Xbox One console – Xbox One S. The Xbox One S does look impressive. To begin with, it’s noticeably smaller than the Xbox One. The Xbox S sits vertically against the horizontal arrangement for the Xbox One. Another noticeable aspect of the S is that it comes with an internal power supply.
The company has included an expansive 2TB storage in the Xbox One S. The Xbox S is also a 4K UHD video playback compliant besides having support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) gaming.
Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled the new compact Xbox One S at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) itself starting $299, to be available in August this year.
Microsoft is all set to sell a special edition that comes with a 2TB hard drive for $399, while the 500GB version will be open to purchase for $299 and the 1TB variant will be available for $349 in August this year.
Meanwhile, Sony is also upping the ante with its PlayStation 4.5 Neo, which also boasts 4K support. In fact, the confirmation comes from none other than Sony Interactive’s president Andrew House, who have reportedly told the Financial Times that the ‘high-end’ PS4 versions will have integrated support for 4K along with better processing and graphics capabilities.
Sony also confirmed it will continue to sell both the PS4 and PS4.5 Neo. However, what remains to be seen is how much of a premium the Neo commands over the standard PS4 that retails for $350. In fact, it is pricing that can turn out to be the most important factor in determining the outcome when the Xbox One S goes head to head with the PlayStation Neo.
Sony meanwhile has also stated the new PS4.5 Neo will be compliant with almost all games that run on the PS4 and vice-versa. However, more games for PS4.5 Neo are also in progress. Further, both PS4 and PS 4.5 Neo will be compliant with the PlayStation VR headset that is due for fall this year.
