Sony sent out invites to a press event at The PlaySation Theatre in New York on September 7. From what we have seen, the invitation itself feels pretty unambiguous. In order to give you an overall idea of what is out there, the invitation contains PlayStation logo with a blue to black radiance background. Just below that, the phrase “PlayStation Meeting” can be found. At the bottom of the invitation, there is the time and the place of the event.
There are chances that we will see an upgraded version of the PlayStation 4 at this upcoming event. Recently, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive confirmed that Sony is working on a new version of the PlayStation 4 dubbed PlayStation Neo, which was also confirmed by the company. From whatever is known so far, the upcoming Sony console would not be called PlayStation 5.
The new console is still a PlayStation 4 but with a vastly improved processor and more RAM. The Neo would be capable of playing games at 4K Ultra HD resolution. Since the console will be a new version of the PlayStation 4, the majority of PlayStation 4 games should work fine in the Neo. Sony said the new PlayStation 4 would be more expensive than the current version.
However, the current version of the PlayStation 4 is not going anywhere as Sony plans to sell both versions as long as it sells PlayStation 4s. However, last week, Microsoft introduced the Xbox One S. It is slimmer and stronger than its predecessor, flaunting a 2TB hard drive, HDMI 2.0a connectivity for 4K video support as well as an overclocked 914MHz AMD Radeon GPU.
In June, Microsoft stated that the company is working on “Project Scorpio,” which is set to launch sometime next year. Additionally, Scorpio will have support for virtual reality (VR) headsets. However, Microsoft did not reveal which VR headsets, in particular, would be seen running on the device.
