OnePlus 5 gets previewed in TVC during Champions Trophy, to cost $499

OnePlus 5 is back in the spotlight again, this time via a TV ad that was aired during the high voltage Champions Trophy final played yesterday.

This was the perfect opportunity for the Chinese start-up to preview their upcoming device given that the game was likely to be viewed by 324 million fans over the world. That made for a huge publicity just prior to the official launch of the handset which is set for June 20. That the ad also featured the Indian megastar Amitabh Bachchan also ensured their official launch on June 22 in India will not go unnoticed.

Subsequently, there are two images of the phone that is shown, each depicting the front and rear of the device. Also, what is amply clear is that the rear dual camera would be the biggest USP of the device. The tagline used – Dual Camera. Clearer Photos. – also sort of confirms this.

The company had earlier dropped enough hints to make us believe they are collaborating with DxO to enhance the handset’s camera performance. Of what good the partnership has been will be closely scrutinized, that’s for sure.

The front of the handset does not offer anything dramatic though. The design layout here is conventional at best, save for the absence of any bezel along the sides. In contrast, the recent flagships such as the Galaxy S8, G6 or the more recent Essential phones provided a more innovative front design characterized by the maximum display and minimum bezel all round.

Also, of course, the OnePlus 5 will be about sheer performance as well given its Snapdragon 835 heart that is complimented by a 6 GB RAM in its basic configuration, which goes up to 8 GB for the top-end model. As for storage, there will be a 64 GB or 128 GB option while the front will have a 5.5-inch full HD display. 6 GB will be priced at $499 and 8GB will cost $599, which is far below Galaxy S8 and coming iPhone 7S.
