AMD announces RX Vega 64 and 56: Price and Specs

AMD’s new Vega series of gaming GPUs are finally official after months of rumors and speculations. The company launched its new Radeon RX Vega 64 and Radeon RX Vega 56 GPUs at an event on Sunday.

Also, as has been the company’s strategy so far, the new RX Vega 64 and 56 GPUs too are all about offering superior processing at an affordable price point. The RX Vega 64 has been priced $499 (air cooled version) and is pitched straight against the Nvidia GTX 1080 while the slightly lower powered RX Vega 56 costs $399 and will compete against the GTX 1070. The highest performance rated water cooled version is priced $699.

Meanwhile, the top-end RX Vega 64 too comes in two versions, one being air-cooled while another comes with a water-cooling solution. Performance stats mentioned are all about superlative figures, which is hardly surprising given the top-end segment it is positioned at.

For instance, the air cooled version of the RX Vega 64 boasts of a bandwidth of 484 GBps along with 8 GB of HBM2 memory. It comes with 64 compute units and 4,096 stream processors all of which contributes to a base clock speed of 1247 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1547 MHz. Its performance is rated at 12.66 Teraflops.

The water cooled version has, even more, processing firepower at its disposal. It boasts of the same bandwidth of 484 GBps and 8 GB of HBM2 memory. It also features the same 64 compute units along with 4,096 stream processors.

However, the more efficient heat dissipation using water cooling technology has led the unit to achieve a higher clock speed of 1406 MHz and a boost clock speed of 1677 MHz. There is a likewise increase in performance rating as well, it being 13.7 TFLOPS.

The cheapest in the series, the RX Vega 56 boasts of the same 8GB of HBM2 RAM but 56 compute units but has a lower bandwidth of 410 GBps. It comes with 56 compute unis and 3584 stream processors. It has a base clock speed of 1,156MHz, which can be boosted to 1471MHz along with a performance rating of 10.5 Teraflops.

All the three RX Vega 64 and 56 GPUs are slated to hit streets by August itself. The range is also inclusive of a limited edition that comes with a brushed aluminum build. Named Radeon RX Vega 64 Limited Edition, its performance specification though will be the same as the Radeon RX Vega 64 but will only be available to an initial lot of buyers. There is no mention though of how much the Radeon RX Vega 64 Limited Edition will cost.
