It has been some time Android Oreo has been out, and smartphone manufacturers have been busy chalking out their upgrade plans. Motorola too has got its schedules ready and has released a list of smartphones that would be the first to get a taste of Oreo.
Getting to the business right away, here is the list of phones that would be the first to get the update. Or in other words, Motorola has confirmed the below-mentioned phones are in line for Oreo.
- Moto Z – Verizon, unlocked
- Moto Z Droid
- Moto Z Force Droid – Verizon
- Moto Z Play – Verizon, unlocked
- Moto Z Play Droid
- Moto Z2 Play – Verizon, unlocked
- Moto Z2 Force Edition – AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon
- Moto X4
- Moto G5 – unlocked
- Moto G5 Plus – unlocked
- Moto G5S
- Moto G5S Plus – unlocked
Unfortunately, no time frames have been mentioned as yet but expect it to happen around fall. At least, it should happen sooner for the unlocked versions as the update for the carrier locked versions would be pushed by the respective operators. Those again are usually time-consuming. Nevertheless, with Motorola generally sticking to an Android version that is closer to the stock Android, it should be simpler for the company to push the latest updates.
Also, as it usually is with every new upgrade plans, there is bound to be heartburns for those who don’t see their phone not included in the list. In fact, perhaps the most notable absentee in the list is the Moto G4 family in spite of it having being launched just last year. But then, that has been the case with the Moto G3 the year prior to that when it too had missed out on the Nougat update.
Motorola announces six new mods in Ghana, likely to be available soon
The list might change though and while Google is eager to see its latest Android spreading out to as many devices as is possible; manufacturers generally play it safe by offering the same on only some of its latest handsets.
