Samsung announces new curved QLED monitor with Thunderbolt 3 to match LG

Samsung and LG is all set to renew their rivalry in the upcoming CES 2018 event where the two tech titans have lined up a slew of new launches, which also includes new large sized monitors as well.

As per the latest reports on this, LG is the first mover here, having first announced a new 34-inch ultra-wide monitor capable of 5K resolutions. That translates to 5,120 x 2,160 pixels which no doubt breaks new ground so far as high-end PC monitors are concerned.

Other salient features of the new 34-inch monitor – model 34WK95U – include its ability to pump out 600 nits of brightness with the images still conforming to HDR quality levels. Coming to what can perhaps be considered the best aspect of the new monitor is the Thunderbolt 3 port that it features. That makes the monitor to be capable of high-speed data transfers seem like a breeze while also outputting enough juice to charge up a laptop or power a secondary display as well.

LG isn’t done yet for it has two more top-notch monitors set for CES debut. Among those is the 32UK950, which offers 32-inches of 4K goodness. That is not all as LG also stated the new 32-inch monitor boasts of Nano IPS tech which refers to the incorporation of nanoparticles on the LED elements. Those, in turn, ensure the monitor qualifies for at least 98 percent of cinema-grade DCI-P3 color.

All in all, the display is just stunning while the other USP of the monitor is its compatibility with 4K daisy chaining. This will enable the user to latch up a secondary display without having to opt for additional data or power resources.

Lastly, there is the 34-inch monitor having the model number 34GK950G. This also is the most basic of the new trio of high-end monitors from LG given that it sports quad HD resolutions. That said, the monitor does benefit from nano IPS along with NVIDIA G-Sync technology to ensure the visuals are right up there among the best, if not the best.

Not to be outdone, Samsung too has joined the party with its own 34-inch monitor that also features a Thunderbolt 3 port. That apart, the other unique quality of the monitor is that it features a curved 34-inch QLED display, which together with the Thunderbolt 3 bit makes it the first monitor of its class to feature both.

Those apart, the new CJ791, as the monitor is named, comes with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels along with a response time of just 4 milliseconds. The monitor also boasts of a 21:9 aspect ratio and an adjustable height stands. This together with the 178-degree wide viewing angle will ensure users can catch up with the action from just about anywhere in front of the monitor.

On the whole, the Samsung offering might not be as tech bedazzling as those from LG but can still make for a compelling choice for video editors or others who need to work with multiple displays at the same time.
