Another day and another Galaxy S9 leak have come to the fore. However, this time, the leak does not unearth any hidden aspect of the phone. Rather, it has to do with the launch event itself and how Samsung plans to enthrall visitors with the ability to view the new S9 in augmented reality.
Credit for the leak goes to Reddit user by the name /u/thesbros who managed to unlock the special Unpacked 2018 mobile app. Samsung had launched the app at the Google Play Store in preparation for the phone’s launch on Feb. 25. While the app is available for just about any Android user, it is meant specifically for those who have been specially invited for the launch event.
In reality, the app is meant to be tapped over the event badge to unravel the ability to sample the phone in augmented reality. That would have been a really nice feature and a pleasant surprise for the visitors too though unfortunately for Samsung, it got leaked earlier.
To power the AR-based feature, the app has been found to hold several Augmented Reality 3D models of the S9 which is supposed to allow the visitors to have a feel of the phone from just about every conceivable angle. Given that it usually takes some days for buyers to have the device on their hands, the above AR feature would be the nearest that visitors would have to actually hold the phone in their hands.
Also, given that the 3D models are supposed to be a true depiction of the actual thing, those are the best reference we have now until the phone launches next week. Not that the models reveal anything that we aren’t aware of already, but there are a couple of things that does get confirmed.
One of it is, of course, the color options, of which again the Lilac Purple is the one that is the unique. Other aspects include the dedicated Bixby button or the placement of the stereo speaker at the bottom. Then there also is a slot which is supposed to be dedicated to AKG, tuning for enhancing audio quality. Moving over to the rear, there is the centrally placed fingerprint sensor, just below the rear cam while the quad LED flash is accommodated alongside.
Samsung teased off another video showcasing the camera Galaxy S9
Samsung meanwhile should be ruing the leak as the surprise factor has been compromised. There does not seem anything else that there is that we already aren’t aware of the S9 before it launches on Feb. 25.
