Rumors of the next iteration in the OnePlus family, the OnePlus 6 have started to surface online, breaking a brief lull we are in a post launch of the Galaxy S9. Also, while it is least surprising the OnePlus 6 will be sporting top-end specs, the real treat here will be a thorough redesign where the phone will incorporate a tallish stance (19:9 aspect ratio) along with an iPhone X-like notched display.
There is a screenshot purported to be that of the OnePlus 6 accompanying the leak as well which reveals a considerably smaller notch than the iPhone X. A front-facing cam too can be seen though it is not known what other sensor package would be accommodated within that slot beside the usual stuff.
For instance, it would be interesting to see if there would be any of the AR related stuff that the iPhone X boasts of. Meanwhile, the image also reveals the status bar with information like clock, network and battery status displayed on either side, as it is on the Apple device.
The leak also reveals the next OnePlus flagship to be even taller, which perhaps is a choice to take into account the notch. The image does not reveal the lower end of the phone though perhaps it would be safe to assume the display would be extending all the way to the lower edge.
Meanwhile, the OnePlus 6 also returned a class-leading AnTuTu benchmark scores of 276,510. That is the highest for any Android phone so far and is also a clear indication of the phone packing in a Snapdragon 845 chipset. That, however, is least surprising given that that is the most powerful that manufacturers have at their disposal. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau too had confirmed their 2018 flagship would be built around that chip.
OnePlus has also been relying on performance as the biggest USP is devices will have. The OnePlus 5T already excels on that front with its SD835 chipset coupled with an 8 GB RAM. The Chinese manufacturer will no doubt like to continue with that and indications so far point to things being promising as well.
Other details are lacking at the moment though we certainly will have enough of that in more such leaks and speculation in the run-up to the launch of the device. The OnePlus 6 is expected to reach stores during the second half of the year, which makes a launch around June as the most probable.
