Google rolls out Continued Conversation feature for Google Assistant

Google Home devices would witness a major reform on Thursday which would be targeted towards the voice assistant software. The new feature would enable the facility for continuous conversation without having to recite ‘Ok Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ before follow up questions.

The feature first introduced by Google at I/O developer conference in May, would facilitate the opportunity for continuing conversations with the smart speakers introduced by the company and users could do this without having to say the activation phrase following every request.

The feature termed as ‘Continued Conversation’ function for various assistant devices such as Google Home, Google Home Max, and Google Home Mini. It could be activated through the Google Assistant app where the user would have to go to ‘Settings’ and then ‘Preferences’ and then the ‘Continued Conversation’ option that can be toggled to activate.

It is important to note that the new feature launched by Google does not imply that the necessity for Ok and Hey while using the smart speaker and similar assistance devices has been eliminated. Activation of the digital assistant is still dependent on the activation phrase albeit with no requirement of the phrase for making follow-up requests.

A conversation could be terminated by uttering ‘stop’ or ‘thank you’ or by remaining silent. As of now, it is available for US English speakers only.
