Apple has released the first public beta version of iOS 12 for iPads and iPhones. The iOS 12 was announced earlier in June at the WWDC 2018 and is specifically tailored for improvement of device performance as well as new features.
We saw the specific improvements and new features associated with iOS 12 for FaceTime, Siri, Photos, Apple’s Augmented Reality platform ARKit and iMessage. On the grounds of performance, Apple has stated that iOS 12 would depict doubling of performance with throttling of CPU to the maximum according to requirements and improving the launch speed of apps to twice the existing speed. iOS 12 would also enable loading of apps with a 40% faster rate even on older devices such as the iPhone 6 Plus.
Generally, Apple excludes specific older devices with the introduction of every iOS update. However, Apple has made the iOS 12 public beta available for all devices which are running the iOS 11. Some of the examples of iPhones and iPads which are compatible with the public beta of iOS 12 could be illustrated as follows for information.
Among iPads, the compatible ones include 12.9 inches iPad Pro 2nd and 1st generation, 10.5 inches iPad Pro, 9.6 inch iPad, 9.7 inch iPad Pro, iPad 5th generation, iPad Air and Air 2 and the iPad mini 4, mini 3 and mini two as well as the iPad touch 6th generation.
Among the iPhones, the compatible ones include the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus and 6s, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, iPhone 5s and iPhone SE.
To download the public beta version of iOS 12, it is essential to backup all data on the device. Then the users would be required to enroll in the Apple’s beta program. Following the enrolment and signing up the process, iOS 12 would be delivered to the registered Apple device.
Users could then download the update for installation by following from ‘Settings’ towards ‘General’ and then the ‘Software update’ option. Users also have the option of rolling back the iOS 12 beta from their devices by unenrolling through an official link provided by Apple.
The new features which would be available with the iOS 12 beta include Measure app. Furthermore, the beta version includes Apple’s new set of Animojis that are available with the ‘Memoji’ feature of Apple that allows users to create animated versions of them albeit being available only on the iPhone X. The other features include new group notifications and Apple’s screen time as well as the existing availability of Siri shortcuts only for Apple apps.
