Samsung Galaxy Tab A to be the budget version of the flagship Galaxy S4

Things are hotting up at Samsung what with the mega Galaxy Note 9 device lined for launch on August 9. However, before that, the company has just outed the Galaxy Tab S4 and the Galaxy Tab A, with the former being a flagship tablet with all the bells and whistles while the Tab A can be considered to be more of a stripped down version of the same. That also makes the Tab A likely to be priced a lot less than the $650 that the S4 is priced at though the exact price of the Tab A has been kept a secret as of now.

Both the S4 and the Tab A, however, can be considered to be lookalikes though there are obvious differences on the inside. That includes a Snapdragon 430 heart for the Tab A compared to the much more aggressive SD 845 for the S4. The Tab A also makes do with a 3 GB RAM along with 32 GB of storage. For the S4, the corresponding specs include a 4 GB RAM along with storage of 64 and 256 GB.

However, the Tab A features the same beefy 7,300 mAh battery while a four-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system too is common for both. That is not all as the two tablets also offer the same 10.5-inch display though there is a huge difference in display panels and resolutions. There is none of the S4’s brilliant AMOLED display for the Tab A which instead features a TFT LCD panel having a resolution of 1920 X 1200 pixels.

The Tab A runs Android 8.1 Oreo which again is the other aspect common with the S4. The tablet also comes with a Kids Mode that would let parents keep a tab on what their wards are up to with the device. The Tab A meanwhile comes with just a 13 megapixel rear facing the camera while a 5 megapixel unit at the front should suffice for video chats and selfies.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few aspects that the Tab A misses out on compared to the S4. That includes a fingerprint sensor or support for DeX and S Pen. Fast charging too is missing on the Tab A.

Samsung’s new flexible OLED panels are truly unbreakable

No pricing or availability details have been revealed as yet though we know the tablet will come in color options of white, blue and black. The Tab A will be on offer with both LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity options.
