Here comes the new HTC U12 Life which happens to be the successor to the U11 Life that was launched last year. And much like its predecessor, the new U12 Life packs modest specs that makes it par for the course with its largely mid-range standing while still holding a visual appeal that makes it stand miles apart from the rest.
What strikes the most with the new U12 Life is that it isn’t another phone to conform to the ‘notched’ design theme that has become a dime a dozen across all segment. Instead, the Taiwanese manufacturer has stuck to a conventional design with bezels all round though those have been reduced to almost being negligible along the sides while the same along the top and bottom are also considerably reduced. The front otherwise is dominated by a 6-inch FHD+ display having a resolution of 2160 x 1080 along with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The rear again looks sleek with a two-tone finish. Color options with the U12 Life include twilight purple and moonlight blue. Both the colors again change its hue in sunlight, with the blue version becoming more blackish while the purple shade becomes more silvery in sunlight conditions. That apart, the rear also houses the fingerprint sensor along with an iPhone X-like vertically aligned dual camera setup along the top left.
The phone otherwise is powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor and is mated to a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. Another version with 128 gigs of storage is also being heard of though that likely will be exclusive to Taiwan. For its OS, the U12 Life will be running Android 8.1 Oreo with the company’s own Sense UI running on top. Keeping the lights on will be a 3,600mAh battery. The phone will also be unique as it marks the return of the headphone jack.
For the shutterbugs, the U12 Life offers a 16- and 5-megapixel sensor combo at the rear. The front meanwhile boasts of a 13-megapixel shooter that again benefits from a LED flash and HDR support as well. Both the front and rear camera are of f/2.0 aperture.
As for its price, the U12 Life is going to set one back £299 or 349 euros in Europe where it’s going to be available from end-Sept. HTC has however ruled out the launch of the phone in the US.
