Microsoft has surprised everyone with the release of the upcoming Windows Server 2012 R2 Preview ahead of Microsoft’s BUILD 2013 developer conference starting from June 26th to June 28th in San Francisco. The preview includes the Start button return as the Windows 8.1 preview along with new Shut down and Restart options into the right-click context menu on the Start button.
Additionally, the Windows Server 2012 R2 preview incorporates option to disable the upper-right and upper-left hot corners so that the Charms will only be accessible via the Win key shortcut. It also includes an option to boot to the desktop instead of the Start Screen, seems like a life saver for those who don’t like the Modern UI.
Microsoft has included a number editions for the Windows Server 2012 R2 preview that includes IT Professionals, Developers, Essentials and Windows Azure, and are available to download now. The evaluation copies will expire on January 15, 2014.

Microsoft will release the preview of most anticipated update to Windows 8, i.e. Windows 8.1 on June 26 at BUILD 2013 developer conference in San Francisco. Microsoft is also expected to showcase some new Windows 8 applications that include Alarm, Calculator, Movie Moments and Sound Recorder that were already seen in early leaked builds.
