Here is something for those who love the notch on their smartphones; and the new Sharp Aquos R2 Compact has two of it, one each at the top and the bottom. As one might have already guessed, the top notch is for housing the front cam while the one at the bottom hosts the fingerprint sensor.
In between lies, a 5.2-inch IGZO LCD panel lit up by 2280 x 1080 pixels. Needless to say, the display extends right to the edges though there stills is quite perceivable bezels along the sides as well as the top and bottom edges. That said, the new Aquos R2 Compact can be considered a substantial improvement over the Aquos R Compact which features a notch at the top along with a huge bezel at the bottom for the fingerprint sensor.
Interestingly, the twin notch design feature may not have been implemented before though its something that it isn’t something that has not been thought of before. In fact, two notches are the maximum that Google has stipulated for Android to support, which means there isn’t going to be another smartphone that betters the R2 on the notch count.
Meanwhile, the new R2 also comes with a considerable bump in specs considering that it is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chip. The rest of the specs include a 4 GB RAM along with Android 9 Pie for the OS. Keeping the lights on is a 2500 mAh battery while the phone also boasts of a 22.6-megapixel camera as well.
For the sake of comparison, the Aquos R features a Snapdragon 660 processor which made it more of a mid-range offering than anything else. Further, the Aquos R came with a 3 GB memory, 32 GB of storage along with 16.4-megapixel primary camera. The battery rating though happens to be the same 2500 mAh on the Aquos R as well.

As for its availability, the Aquos R2 is all set to debut in January though unfortunately, it will likely remain confined to the Japanese shores, for now at least. It isn’t a surety as of now if the R2 will see a launch in other world markets anytime soon.
