Huawei has come up with a new contender in the high-end smartphone segment in the form of the Nova 4. And the one unique aspect of the phone, apart from its high-end specs, of course, is the incorporation of a display with punch holes for the front-facing cam.
True to its flagship ranking, the Nova 4 comes powered by the Kirin 970 chipset. Assisting the processor is an 8 GB RAM along with 128 GB of native storage. The phone is running Android 9 Pie right out of the gates, with the company’s proprietary EMUI 9 interface running on top. Keeping the lights on is a 3750 mAh battery with support for 18 watt fast charging via USB-C port.
The other and probably the biggest highlight of the Nova 4 is its camera setup which happens to be the same as that of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. That includes a trio of rear cams comprising of an industry first 48 mp primary sensor of f/1.8 aperture, complemented by a 16 mp super wide angle lens of f/2.2 aperture and a 2 mp depth sensor of f/2.4 aperture.
The above applies to the top end model of the Nova 4, there being another low-end model having a slightly different camera layout. That includes a 20 mp primary shooter of a f/1.8 aperture with the rest being the same. The front meanwhile benefits from a 25 mp camera of f/2.0 aperture.
Interestingly, there also happens to be a rear center mounter fingerprint scanner. The lack of an under-screen fingerprint sensor is quite intriguing given the flagship positioning of the phone together with its unique quality of having a punch hole display which makes the front almost an uninterrupted slab of glass. The front display otherwise is a 6.4-inch IPS LCD panel having a resolution of 2310 x 1080 pixels.
As for its pricing, the top end Nova 4 has been priced CNY 3,400 which comes to around 435 Euros. The model below that sports a sticker price of CNY 3,100 which translates to around 400 Euros roughly. Both the phones are slated to launch in China first before being released in India and Europe during the next phase.
