Huawei is all set to launch the new Y9 in India on January 10, which will further bolster the company’s presence in the mid-range segment in the country. The event is planned in New Delhi and will mark the company’s first offering in the country this year.
The Y9 though has been out of the wild for quite some months already, having been available in some markets outside of India. What that means is that there isn’t much of the phone that we don’t know already. That includes a rather massive 6.5-inch FHD+ display to make up the front, with a slim chin at the bottom and a rather smallish rectangular notch being the only interruptions here.
Powering the phone is the company’s own octa-core 710 chipset. Also, there is going to be two versions of the phone on offer, which includes a 4 GB RAM model having 64 GB of storage along with a 6 GB RAM model having 128 GB of storage. Running the show will likely be Android Pie even though the Y9 when first launched sported Android Oreo out of the box. Coupled to Android Pie will likely be EMUI 9 though it will be EMUI 8.2 if the phone comes pre-loaded with Android Oreo.
On the camera front, the Y9 comes with dual front and rear cameras. That includes a 13 mp primary shooter and 2 mp cam for the rear while the front will benefit from a 16 mp and 2 mp selfie cam. Keeping thing going will be a 4000 mAh battery which experts opine should be enough for day-long operations even with the large pixel-rich display upfront. Then, there also is a rear mounted fingerprint sensor as well for biometric authentication.

Another highlight of the new Y9 relates to its rear shell which sports 3D arc design. On offer will be three color options – Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Aurora Purple. Availability is going to be exclusively via Amazon though, for pricing, one will have to wait till the event for the exact details here. For reference, the base model with 4 gigs of memory could be priced Rs. 15,300 while the 6 GB RAM model could set one back Rs. 20,400. Both prices are rough estimate based on the phone’s pricing in China.
