Huawei Y9 officially launched in India for Rs. 15,990, sale starts Jan. 15

Huawei has been officially launched the Y9 in India and has revealed all aspects of the phone, meaning there isn’t anything anymore that is left to speculation. That also applies to the all-important pricing structure as well, which stands at Rs. 15,990, as revealed by Tornado Pan, the Country Manager, Consumer Business Group for Huawei India with sale kicking off from Jan. 15th.

For those who are joining in late, the Y9 is going to be an Amazon exclusive, with the retailer already having made a microsite for the phone to further harp on the exclusivity. Unfortunately, neither Amazon nor Huawei clarified if the above-mentioned price applies to the base model or the top end version though we will get the hang of it all soon enough.

Meanwhile, the rest of the details include a rather expansive 6.5-inch full-HD+ 1080 x 2340 pixel FullView Display. The panel boasts of a 3D curved design and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Disruptions are going to be the bare minimum, in the form of a smallish rectangular notch at the top and a slim chin at the bottom.

Powering the phone is an octa-core Kirin 710 which the company said is backed up by AI Power 7.0 for enhanced material learning capabilities. Also, there is going to be two versions of the phone offering 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM coupled to 64 GB and 128 GB of storage respectively. The latter again is expandable to a max of 256 GB via microSD cards.

Another highlight of the Y9 is its dual front and rear camera setup, each backed up by artificial intelligent software to ensure the picture quality is optimum irrespective of the external light conditions. Specifically, its a 13 mp primary and 2 mp secondary camera duo at the rear while the front benefits from a 16 mp and 2 mp camera combo.

Unfortunately, the Y9 comes pre-loaded with Android Oreo and not the latest Android Pie. Running on top of the Oreo is EMUI 8.2. Further, keeping the lights on is a 4,000 mAh battery which the company said has been optimized to comfortably sail through the entire day on a single charge. Then there also is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well for user authentication.

As for an added incentive for early buyers, the company also announced there is the Boat Rockerz Sports Bluetooth headphones worth Rs. 2,990 for the taking completely free of cost with the Y9.
