In what is going to be the first true blue competitor to the new Galaxy S10, LG has launched the new V50 ThinQ smartphone at the ongoing MWC. However, the new V50 is more of an evolution over the V40 launched last year than being a completely new device.
That said, the new V50 is still a 5G enabled phone with the added incentive here being that it has the provision to add a secondary display to appeal to those who’d like to have a dual screen phone as well. The dual screen feature again is brought about by a case with an OLED panel attached to it, which means there is none of the foldable display thing there.
Instead, the new V50 has to be snapped into a case having the secondary display. The case again draws battery juice via the Pogo pins on the rear of the V50 to power the extra display. Also, while the V50 comes with a standard display of 6.4-inches, the secondary panel is a tad smaller at 6.2-inches owing to the extra bezel depth it has on all sides.
Also, the display is backed by adequate software support so that the same can be used to mirror what is already being displayed on the main screen. The case being able to rotate 360-degrees means it can be used to show the image that is being shot by the camera so that those being clicked will know how they are going to look and so on.
That apart, the new V50 can also serve as a nice gaming device as well, what with all the action taking place on the secondary display while the phone’s main display providing for the controls. The display can also be nice for watching videos too.
The V50 comes with updated specs in the form of a Snapdragon 855 chipset for the processor. Coupled to that is a 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage, the latter being expandable to a max of 2 TB.
The phone also comes with a 4000 mAh battery which hopefully should be enough to allow for the larger battery drain that 5G accounts for.
As for its optics, those again are the same as on the V40. That includes a triple sensor rear setup comprising of a 12 mp standard lens, a 12 mp telephoto sensor along with a 16 mp wide-angle camera. The front features an 8 mp standard and 5 mp wide angle lens.
