Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has taken the wraps off of its latest budget offering, the Redmi 7. The phone comes loaded with features but, as is typical of Chinese phones, it won’t burn a hole in buyer’s pockets given its affordable price tag.
To begin with, the first thing that catches the attention with the new Redmi 7 is its display, which is all of the 6.36-inches. Backing up the display is 720 x 1520 pixels which make things look so very life like. The notch at the top houses the front camera which is of 8 mp resolution.
Another highlight of the display is the Gorilla Glass 5 layer built on top which makes for an added layer of protection. The display with a 19:9 aspect ratio makes for 83 percent screen-to-body ratio which is quite impressive for a budget device. What’s more, Xiaomi is also claiming having obtained certification from TÜV Rheinland of Germany for being safe on the eyes which has been done by curbing the blue light.
While still on display, the same is complemented by a chin at the bottom which however isn’t too prominent to disrupt the looks. Overall, the phone looks par for the course even though we have had this sort of a design way too much now to excite us anymore.
This again would make us delve on the inside of the device, which reveals a Snapdragon 632 chipset making up the core of the phone. The Octa-core processor is matched to either a 2, 3 or 4 GB RAM while storage options too varies from 16, 32 and 64 GB for the respective models. The phone runs the latest Android 9.0 Pie and is powered by a quite generous 4000mAh battery.
The rear benefits from a twin lens camera comprising of a 12 mp primary sensor along with a depth sensor of 2 megapixel. The company has also said there is going to be a host of AI software backed optimizations to enhance the quality of the image, which includes the ability to shoot even in almost zero light conditions. Then there also is the fingerprint sensor as well placed at the rear center.
Color options available include blue and red, both of which does look quite cool. In fact, the P2i liquid-repellant nano-coating makes the phone to seem to have a glass rear though it has a polycarbonate cover in reality. The coating, however, makes the phone have water repellent qualities.
As for its price, it stands at 699 yuan or ₹7,150 for the starting 2 GB/ 16 Gb version while the 3 Gb/ 32 Gb model is priced 799 yuan or ₹8,200. The top end 4 GB/ 64 Gb model commands a price tag of 999 yuan or ₹10,200. The phone right now is exclusive to China and is not known when its going to be available overseas.
