Oppo has a new phone in the making, Reno. And the one way Reno is going to be different from the others is the way it is going to hide its selfie camera.
A video that made its way to the Chinese social site Weibo, and ultimately to YouTube as well, has shown the Reno to pack in a triangular looking stuff at the top that would pop up and will have the selfie cam integrated in it. The technique of hiding the selfie cam in a pop-up something isn’t new as we sure have seen companies adopting such a design element before.
However, those certainly have been rectangular structures so far, and diminutive in size as well. Case in point, the Vivo Nex or the Vivo V15 Pro, apart from Oppo’s very own Find X itself. Even the upcoming OnePlus 7 too is expected to have such a design feature.
However, to have a triangular looking slide popping up has taken many by surprise. Then again, it’s unlikely the company would be using something different just for the show of it. For the same could also be hiding some other feature as well, such as a LED flash or maybe some other sensor and such.
The right edge of what pops up seems to be holding some sort of a strip, and it’s anybody’s guess what those could be in reality. It might be indicative of a new camera technology, or a new LED flash design or just simply a design element for aesthetics. In another image leak, the speaker too is shown accommodated in the pop-up slide.
While those are guesses at best, what is apparently clear is a true edge-to-edge display for the Reno, right up to the bottom edge as well, which means the bottom chin too will be a thing of the past with the new Reno. A recent sighting of the phone at TENAA has also revealed the Reno to come with a 6.4-inch 2340 x 1080 pixel AMOLED display.
Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 710 though there also could be a version having Snapdragon 855 onboard. Memory and storage configuration will include a 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage model, another 6 GB RAM + 256 GB storage version along with the top-end version having 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage. The 3,680 mAh battery would be keeping the lights on.

The version with SD710 is expected to have a dual 48 mp and 5 mp camera at the back as well as a 16 mp selfie cam at the front. The more advanced model with SD855 processor will have better specs which include a triple rear cam support with 10X zoom, liquid cooling tech along with a bigger battery having support for 50W charging.
Ultimately, a more up-market Lamborghini Edition too is believed to be in the making, one that will have 12 GB RAM, 512 GB UFS 3.0 storage, a 5,000mAh battery along with 5G compatibility.
The Reno is expected to launch on April 10.
