Samsung today launched the Galaxy M40 in India, the newest in the ‘M’ series of phones the company had recently introduced to compete with the Chinese budget Android offerings. And the new M40 does come across as an attractive option given its endearing price tag of Rs. 19,990 which applies to the model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
For that amount of money, buyers can look forward to some scintillating specs in the form of a 6.3-inch full-HD+ Infinity-O Display. That is again Samsung’s way to describe a punch hole display where the hole happens to be along the extreme edge, which in case of the M40 is on the top left-hand corner.
The display has a contrast ratio of 1200:1 along with 480 nits of brightness though the display itself comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, which can be considered to be a bit of let-down given that its Gorilla Glass 6 that is currently available. On the other side of the display lies the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, which in conjugation with the Adreno 612 GPU and 6 GB of RAM promises to cook up some real processing magic.
The M40 also comes with 128 GB of native storage, which can go up to a huge 512 GB by way of microSD card. The phone also comes with a physical fingerprint sensor placed at the rear. Connectivity options include dual sim 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth along with GPS and A-GPS. There is a USB Type-C port as well.
So far as optics are concerned, the M40 comes with a triple camera system at the rear with the primary camera being a 32 mp sensor of f1.7 aperture. The primary cam also includes an AI scene optimizer to make the images look all the more vivid and vibrant. The primary cam is supported by a 5 mp secondary cam with a depth sensor for some true bokeh effects. Then there is an 8 mp ultra-wide lens as well for wide angle shots.
Among the other interesting features of the camera include the ability to record 4K videos. The phone is also able to record Slo-mo and Hyperlapse videos, which are just some of the more interesting features of the main camera. As for selfies, there is the 16 mp front shooter as well tucked inside the punch hole.
Powering the phone is a 3500 mAh battery, which again is another factor where many were expecting some more juice. Fortunately, there is a 15W charger which together with the Type-C charger should allow for some really quick charging times.
As for its availability, the new M40 is all set to go on sale from Airtel and Samsung online store from June 18 starting 12 noon.
