A few weeks ago, Samsung announced its plan to enhance the camera performance of the Galaxy S23 series through a software update in June. Although the update faced a slight delay, the company finally released the June 2023 security update to the Galaxy S23 series last week. Currently, the update is being rolled out in China and the US.
For users in the US, the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra are receiving the new update with firmware version S91xUSQU1AWF3. It is important to note that this update has a file size of 2.2GB, so it is recommended to download it over a Wi-Fi connection to avoid additional mobile data charges from your carrier. The June 2023 update elevates the Android security patch level on the Galaxy S23 trio to June 2023. Alongside security enhancements, the update brings smoother One UI transition animations and improvements to haptic feedback. Furthermore, it resolves HDR issues encountered in certain lighting conditions by the default Camera app.
The most significant improvement, however, lies in the camera capabilities. This update is specifically designed for carrier-locked versions of the three phones and significantly enhances overall camera performance. Reports indicate that the update introduces a 2x zoom option in the Portrait mode of the Camera app, resolves autofocus-related issues, and enhances image processing in the Night mode. Users have also reported smoother animations and improved haptic feedback. Moreover, the June 2023 security patch addresses more than 50 security flaws.
If you own a Galaxy S23 series phone and reside in China or the US, you can now check for the new update. Simply navigate to Settings » Software update and tap on Download and install to verify if the update is available for your device. Alternatively, you can wait for the appropriate firmware file to become available in the firmware database. Once accessible, you can download the file and use the Odin tool on a Windows PC to manually flash the firmware.
Samsung is yet to release the new camera update and the June 2023 security patch in various other regions, including various African, Asian (including India), and Latin American countries.
