iPhone 15 Pro Models rumored to come with 2 TB storage options

Speculation from sources in China suggests that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 Pro models may come equipped with a new 2TB maximum storage option, doubling the storage capacity of the iPhone 14 Pro models. Reports from a Korean Naver blog account called “yeux1122” and a Weibo account have added weight to the rumor, indicating that the Pro series might start with a minimum of 256GB storage, replacing the current base 128GB capacity found in the iPhone 14 models.

Such a change could lead to four available storage tiers – 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB, and the new 2 TB option. However, such storage upgrades could also coincide with potential price increases for the iPhone 15 Pro models this year. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman and tech analyst Jeff Pu have both suggested that price hikes for this year’s Pro models can’t be ruled out entirely. Pu predicts that the starting price for the iPhone 15 Pro could be $1,099, up from the $999 starting price of the iPhone 14 Pro. If accurate, the iPhone 15 Pro Max could start at $1,199.

Despite the rumors, it’s important to note that last year’s iPhone 14 Pro models were also rumored to offer a 2 TB option, which did not materialize. Therefore, it remains uncertain whether the 2 TB storage option will indeed be available in the iPhone 15 Pro series. The introduction of a 1TB storage option in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max last year was primarily driven by the need to support new camera features, such as ProRes video recording, which consumes significantly more storage compared to regular videos.

For instance, ProRes video recording in 4K at 30 frames per second requires an iPhone 14 Pro model with a storage capacity of 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. Those with a 128 GB storage capacity can only record ProRes video in 1080p at 30 frames per second. If Apple does increase the base storage of the iPhone 15 Pro to 256 GB, all models would be capable of recording ProRes videos in 4K at 30fps.

Apple’s plans for the iPhone 15 Pro will be officially unveiled in just over a month during the annual iPhone event. According to Mark Gurman, the event is expected to take place on either Tuesday, September 12 or Wednesday, September 13. Until then, we can only anticipate what exciting features and storage options Apple has in store for its latest flagship devices.
