With iPhone 7 rumors keep coming in, the latest one paints some pretty exciting scenarios.
Apple might be considering a huge improvement with the camera of the iPhone 7 duo, with the bigger 7 Plus variant benefitting from a dual lens setup.
However, while that is explicitly ruled out in a few previous rumor streams, a new report on MobiPicker, which again is citing leaks and speculations from the Chinese site Weibo claiming the dual camera is back in contention for the iPhone 7 Plus.
As a result, the iPhone 7 Plus might have two 12-megapixel cameras while the same source is claiming an even more extravagant 21-megapixel rear shooter for the iPhone 7. Even if two 12-megapixel camera does sound feasible for the 7 Plus, a 21-megapixel unit for its 4.
7-inch sibling does seem like stretching things a bit too far.
While manufacturers are giving up on the megapixel war, the focus right now is enhancing the pixel size itself to allow better quality images, particularly in low light conditions. That should explain the presence of 12-megapixel rear cameras on both the Samsung and HTC flagship devices.
Another reason why Apple might not attempt such a huge bump in camera specs with the iPhone 7 is that it was only the iPhone 6s that offered a 12-megapixel unit, up from 8-megapixel camera present on iPhone 6.
Coming to the rest of the rumors, the iPhone 7 Plus might feature a 3 GB RAM while iPhone 7 continuing with 2GB. However, it’s been merely a year since Apple enhanced the memory to 2 GB for the iPhone 6s from 1 GB in its predecessor, another rapid memory bump is unlikely.

The other rumor doing the rounds is that Apple might be contemplating different storage options for both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. If it’s true, iPhone 7 might be seen packing in 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB of internal memory. However, the bigger 7 Plus might offer 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB of storage.
Lastly, there also are reports of Apple replacing its proprietary Lightning port with the USB Type-C that supports fast charging and data transfers on the forthcoming iPhone 7 devices. It again is something that needs to be ingested with the proverbial grain of salt.
Some of these rumors do seem entirely unreasonable given Apple’s record in introducing hardware changes to the iPhone range. That being said, it’s probably the first time since very long that Apple sees a sales dip. In addition, a reinvigorated competition might force Apple to think out of the box – but to what extent remains to be seen.
