The great megapixel war seems to be back again with smartphone manufacturers back to fitting high rated camera on the phones. Case in point, the new Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 with a massive 48 mp camera at the rear being readied for launch in January.
According to reports coming in, the Redmi Pro 2 will see a domestic launch in China first, most probably on January 10 before it is introduced to other regions of the world. This will also make the Redmi Pro 2 the first phone in the world to come with a 48 mp camera, the highest so far.
However, there is little less that we know of the upcoming Xiaomi phone. That includes no confirmation either if the phone will feature a Sony IMX586 or Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 sensor. There is speculation though that the phone might end up featuring both the sensors. As an indication, we already have a close-up photo of a phone’s camera with the camera unit appearing a bit raised and is accompanied by a dual LED flash.
The above revelation courtesy of Xiaomi president Lin Bin didn’t share anything else though analysts, as well as fans, are curious to know the number of sensors the phone will pack in at its rear. Competitor Huawei had earlier launched the P20 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro both featuring a trio of cameras at the rear one of which happens to be a 40 mp camera. That also is the highest camera rating for any phone launched in recent times while both the phone also came to be lauded for their camera performance.
Meanwhile, mention must also be made of the Nokia Lumia 1020 which had stunned the tech world with its 41 mp camera. That was in Sep. 2013 and can be considered well ahead of its time. That the rather large camera module on the rear made the Lumia 1040 a bit unwieldy is another matter though recent launches such as the Huawei P20 devices are quite a looker. All of this makes the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 a highly anticipated device though fortunately, we won’t have to wait for long for all the details to emerge.
