The Huawei P30 Pro has been making waves ever since it was launched a few weeks ago. And much of that has to do with the superb camera that the phone comes with, something that easily won it the best camera phone award.
Also, of course, there are solid reasons for it to be accorded the honors, which includes the phone’s ability to shoot awesome quality photos even in seemingly pitch-dark conditions. That is not all as the phone also won rich accolades for its super zooming abilities. That stands at an impressive 5x optical zoom which is the highest for any smartphone camera ever.
Coming to the specifics, the new Huawei P30 Pro comes with three real cameras. That includes a Super Sensing 40 mp camera having f/1.6 aperture and 26mm focal length. Huawei described the Super Sensing bit has to do with its RYYB – Red Yellow Yellow Blue – a sensor that the phone comes with instead of the usual RGB – Red Green Blue – a sensor that other smartphone cameras come with.
Huawei further explained this leads to 40 percent more light entering the sensor, leading to images of exceptional clarity. The influx of extra light also translates to better quality images even in poorly lit areas, with Huawei claiming the yellow areas allowing for additional green and red lights to enter the system.
Then there is a 20 mp ultra wide sensor having f/2.2 aperture and is especially suited for landscape shots. Lastly, there is aa the 8 mp telephoto lens capable of 5x optical zoom, something that makes the new P30 Pro stand head and shoulders above the competition. Huawei also said all three cameras can contribute to allow for 10x hybrid zoom, which again is the best on any smartphone so far.
Another reason for the images clicked on P30 Pro’s primary camera to have so much of life in it is the presence of the ToF or time-of-flight sensor which sits just below the LED flash at the rear. Data from the same is used to add depth to the images, making it seem so much real and natural, besides also allowing for the addition of the blur effect in portrait shots. Plus, the phone is also capable to shoot images with the subject being just 2.5 cm away, again the least on any smartphone so far.
The front of the phone accommodates a 32 mp sensor for selfie shots. The camera, besides being superb in its own right is also backed by several software modes such as AI HDR+ and such to allow for some of the best selfies otherwise possible on a smartphone. Not for nothing is Huawei is calling it a phone that rewrites the rules of photography.
Video photography is equally impressive and is aided with features such as OIS and AIS – Artificial Intelligence Stabilization – which has been made available on the primary as well as the telephoto lens to allow for stable shoots. No wonder, the Pro 30 Pro is getting compared to DSLRs so far as camera capabilities are concerned which alone should speak volumes of the phone’s camera.
Meanwhile, the rest of the specs of the P30 Pro include a Kirin 980 processor which along with an ARM Mali-G76MP10 GPU makes up the core of the phone’s processing abilities. Assisting in that is an 8 GB RAM while storage options range from 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB for the top-of-the-line model.
Up front, it’s a 6.47-inch Full HD+ OLED panel that dominates things while the rear too boasts of a glass build, with both the surfaces tapering off to meet along the sides. Overall, the build quality is superb and befits the flagship status of the phone. The phone also looks par for the course with a dewdrop notch at the top along with the almost non-existent bezels along the sides making the display stretch all the way to the edges on all sides.
Keeping the lights on is a huge 4,200 mAh battery which is generous by any measure. Plus, there also is the 40W charger which means the phone can recharge in a jiffy. The phone is also IP68 certified against water and dust ingress. Also, the phone runs the latest Android Pie based EMUI 9.1. For security, there also is an in-screen fingerprint sensor along with face unlock feature. The rest of the features include Dual SIM 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, Type-C port, and NFC.
As for its price, the P30 Pro has been priced extremely competitively at RS. 71,990 for the starting model. Amazon and Croma have been declared as the official sales partner. Amazon Prime members will get to buy the phone starting April 15, 12 AM onwards and 16th April 12 Am onwards for regular members. Croma meanwhile is accepting pre-orders for the P30 Pro starting today with deliveries starting April 19.
Huawei also announced an equally lucrative launch offer wherein buyers can opt for the Huawei Watch GT for just Rs. 2,000 which otherwise cost Rs. 15,990.
Also, it isn’t just the P30 Pro that was announced at today’s event as Huawei also introduced its budget version, the P30 Lite as well. The Lite comes in two versions, one that offers 4 gigs of memory and 128 GB of storage that is priced Rs. 19,990 while the more up-market model with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage is priced Rs. 22,990.
As the name signifies, the Lite can well be considered as a much stripped down version of the flagship P30 Pro while still have quite a similar form factor. Powering the Lite is a Kirin 710 processor and runs the Android 9.0 based EMUI 9.0. The phone comes with a 3340 mAh battery and a 6.15-inch HD+ display at the front.
For a camera, the Lite also boasts of a triple lens layout at the rear comprising of a 24 mp f/1.8 aperture primary sensor, an 8 mm ultrawide sensor along with a 2 mp f/2.4 aperture depth sensor. Then there also is a 32 mp f/2.0 aperture selfie camera with HDR support.
Availability of the P30 Lite starts April 25, 12 AM onwards for Prime members at Amazon and a day later for the non-Prime members. The same can also be picked up from Croma stores starting early May.
