Apple has finally pushed out the first major update to its mobile OS with iOS 9.1, which is now available as an over-the-air update (OTA) to all iOS 9 users. The update brings support for Unicode Consortium, a body that standardizes the list of characters across different operating systems. Implying that iOS 9 now supports all emojis, making iOS the first operating system to include every emoji in the Unicode Standard.
Hence all kinds of in-demand emoji will now be available on iPhones, including taco, nerd face, robot, burrito, champagne, a man in a business suit levitating, hot dog, cheese, crab, lion along with the controversial middle finger. It also brings religious symbols, like prayer beads and places of worship and a super magical unicorn. According to Emojipedia, there are 184 new emojis across all categories.
The latest update also fixes an issue with Live Photos, a new feature that was introduced with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. It can now sense when you raise your device or while you are lowering it which denies it from capturing unnecessary movements.
Moreover, iOS 9.1 also brings Apple News to its users in the UK for the first time. The app essentially allows users to pick from a variety of topics and publishers to get customized news subscriptions. Besides, iOS 9.1 also addresses a slew of bug fixes and as with most updates, it enhances the overall iOS experience.
To download the update, just head over to Settings, click General and hit update, while some users have also been prompted to install the new version. Once installed, users will be redirected to the usual startup page, where they’ll be asked to log in and select a few settings before they can start using the device.
Apparently the latest iOS 9.1 is the third update to iOS 9 so far, as the company earlier rolled out iOS 9.0.1 and iOS 9.0.2. Apple launched iOS 9 back in September, and just within a week since its release Apple claimed that the OS already made history with the fastest adoption rate ever. More than half of all iOS devices are now running iOS 9 that brings Search and Siri refinements, new iPad features, a News app along with better battery management. And the best part, it does not even demand an enormous amount of storage space unlike its predecessor, apparently a much as 3.5 times less.
