New BlackBerry Android smartphone lineup revealed

BlackBerry, a company that is best known for its self-dependent business environment, despite Android killing almost all its remaining potential of BB10 operating system with its dominance, is not ready to give up. Keeping up to its fighting spirit, BlackBerry re-emerged with its idea of BlackBerry Priv – the company’s first official Android-powered smartphone, back in November last year.

However, according to a recent listing on GeekBench, a new BlackBerry Android handset codenamed “Rome” is underway. The device is said to feature physical BlackBerry keyboard as well as hexacore CPU, according to the initial reports. In addition, the smartphone (STV100-3) will carry around 3GB RAM and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow software out of the box.

BlackBerry Rome may feature Snapdragon 650 alongside a quad-core ARM CortexA53s clocked at a speed of 1.4 GHz, as well as a dual-core cluster Cortex-A72 running at a higher clock speed of 1.8 GHz. Also, there is another BackBerry device “Neon” making rounds already. That device is expected to run on Snapdragon Octa-core 600 series processor with ARM Cortex-A53 cores.

Unfortunately, there is no other information or details available at this moment that we could put forward. The company earlier decided to get rid of BlackBerry Classic smartphone BB 10 manufacturing. Now, it makes perfect sense why BlackBerry had to shut it down so that it could come out with three new Android devices.

Last year’s BlackBerry Priv is based out of Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 (Dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 & Quad-core 1.44 GHz Cortex-A53) and Adreno 418 GPU, featuring 5.4 inches AMOLED capacitive touchscreen as well as 540 ppi pixel density. The Priv’s screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection in addition to 2560 x 1440px resolution.

BlackBerry Priv runs with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. The internal storage, however, is further expandable up to 256 GB via a dedicated microSD card slot. Memory aside, it has 18 MP primary camera as well as 2MP front-facing camera.
