Microsoft has launched the new Surface Go which has turned out to be the new cheaper Surface Pro alternative that we knew the company has been into making for some time now. And the best thing with the new 10-inch hybrid device is that it starts at $399, which makes the Surface Go the new entry-level device to get into the Surface family of tablets.
The lower price tag for the Surface Go should again be an indication of it packing slightly lesser capable specifications compared to the Surface Pro. Power comes from an Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor that works in conjugation with either a 4 GB or 8 GB RAM. Likewise, storage options include 64 GB and 128 GB respectively.
Microsoft also said the Surface Go should be good to go 9 hours on a single charge, which the company attributed to the low power sipping qualities of the new 7th gen Intel Gold chip. Another key aspect of the Intel Gold chip is its low thermal signature, which allowed Microsoft to adopt a fanless design for the Surface Go.

Things are however all too familiar from the design point of view, with the Surface Go having the same iconic rear hinge arrangement that is typical of all Surface devices. However, as has already been stated, the display is smaller at 10-inches though the surrounding bezels are a tad thicker and does stick out in today’s age when bezel-less designs are more of the norm than an exception. The display though looks sparkling clear thanks to its 1800 X 1200-pixel resolution.
And so far as ports are concerned, the Surface Go comes with the same Surface Connector port which again is typical of all Surface Pro devices. Then there is the USB-C 3.1 port as well that can also be used to charge the tablet or for transferring data.
On the software front, the Surface Go comes pre-loaded with Windows 10, with the S Mode enabled by default. That makes the device to be able to run only those apps available at the Windows Store. That said, there is always the provision to revert to the standard Windows 10 platform which is less restricting than Windows 10S.
The keyboard again is an optional extra that costs another $99. That applies to the standard fare done up in black though there also is the Alcantara type cover for a more luxurious feel but costs more at $129. There also is the Surface Pen that one can opt for but again costs another $99. The $34.99 Surface Mobile Mouse rounds off the official list of accessories Microsoft has come up for the Surface Go.

The Surface Go has been priced $399 which applies to the base version with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of SSD storage. Next up is the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of solid-state storage and costs $549. Both the model are Wi-Fi enables with the LTE models slated to come up later.
Pre-orders starts July 10 with shipments to begin starting next month.
