OnePlus Fold spec leak points to the device being ahead of the competition

In a recent leak, the highly reliable Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka @OnLeaks) treated us to captivating factory CAD-based renders of the OnePlus Fold (or OnePlus V Fold). Now, we have an almost comprehensive and incredibly believable spec sheet courtesy of the same industry insider. Let’s dive into the specifications right away.

The primary display of the OnePlus Fold is rumored to measure a substantial 7.8 inches, surpassing the Pixel Fold, Z Fold 4, and purportedly the Z Fold 5, all of which sport 7.6-inch screens. Not to be outdone, the cover screen of the OnePlus Fold is expected to be impressively tall, edging ahead of the Z Fold 4 with a 6.2-inch display and the Pixel Fold with a 5.8-inch screen by 0.1 and 0.5 inches, respectively.

While some details about the OnePlus Fold’s panels remain undisclosed, such as the exact pixel counts, it is believed that the primary AMOLED display will boast a 2K resolution, and both displays are likely to support a silky smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

To power such a mammoth device with its ultra-high-resolution screens, a generously sized battery is a must. Although the rumored 4,800mAh capacity might not seem groundbreaking by conventional 2023 high-end smartphone standards, it surpasses the Galaxy Z Fold 4 by a solid 400mAh. What’s even more impressive is the speculated 67W charging speeds of the OnePlus Fold, an improvement over the Z Fold 4’s modest 25W capabilities and a slight step down from the non-foldable OnePlus 11’s 100W charging.

While many foldable devices don’t excel in the camera department, the OnePlus Fold appears to be an exception. It is rumored to boast a triple camera setup, including not one, but two 48 MP sensors and a 64 MP telephoto lens. Additionally, it may feature a 32 MP selfie shooter on the cover screen and a 20 MP selfie camera in the top left corner of its foldable display. On paper, this puts the OnePlus Fold ahead of both the Pixel Fold and Z Fold 4 in terms of camera capabilities, although we know that megapixel counts don’t always translate to real-life photography performance.

Enhancing its imaging prowess, the OnePlus Fold is expected to incorporate advanced Hasselblad technology. Under the hood, it is said to pack the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, accompanied by a hefty 16 GB of RAM to handle demanding multitasking. Storage options might be limited to a single 256 GB configuration, likely to help keep the retail pricing relatively competitive, although we shouldn’t get too carried away with our optimism.

While it’s unlikely to be an affordable device, given OnePlus’ reputation, there is hope that the OnePlus Fold will offer a more competitive price point compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 when it launches around August or September. For now, we eagerly await an official company announcement to unveil further details.
