For years, we’ve seen hoverboard concepts though most of them seem rather limited in their usage for an average consumer. However now just as we approach the new year, a company called ArcaSpace is taking the shots by offering something that might work for everyone. The company on Thursday released a video showcasing the ArcaBoard, a hoverboard that runs on any surface be it land, water or ice.
Unlike the magnetic-powered hoverboards by Hendo and Lexus, ArcaBoard is actually shown hovering a foot above the ground. The amount of thrust its fans provide is what makes the board cruise over any surface be it solid concrete or water.
To create the required lift, ArcaBoard is equipped with 36 high power electrical fans that can generate 272 horsepower or 430 pounds of thrust.
The board itself appears to be a massive rectangular skateboard made from composite materials. Not something that you can carry in a backpack as it weighs 82kg on its own, measuring 145 x 76 x 15 cm (57 x 30 x 6 inches). It also features self-balancing technology along with a Bluetooth connected iOS or Android app to navigate and control the board.
Riders can use their bodies to keep themselves from falling off, or they can use the app that initiates a stabilization system and can use hand movements to relay commands.
While juicing up the ArcaBorad is a battery that can last for six minutes for the light weight version, while the one designed for heavier riders lasts for 3 minutes. It requires six hours to recharge via a regular supply, though if you go for the ArcaDock rapid charging accessory for $4500, you can get it fully charged in just about 35 minutes.
It gets a price tag of $19,900, as the company has now started taking orders for both versions of the ArcaBoard with deliveries expected in April 2016.
ArcaBoard certainly the closest thing we’ve seen in terms of a street-ready hoverboard, though just don’t plan on any grand voyages yet. We’ll certainly keep an eye on this one.
