You can now pre-order the latest gen Apple TV, apparently the first to get its exclusive App Store for third-party apps and games. The 32 GB variant of the Apple TV has been priced at 9, and the larger 64GB variant has been priced at 9, while shipping starts October 30th.
The latest 4th gen Apple TV marks the biggest upgrade since its launch four years back. The coolest new thing is the Siri remote that gets a touchpad for navigation and gaming, along with voice search compatibility. Hence, there’ll be Siri support for universal search by voice.
Implying users can search for titles using voice commands, for instance, they can search for movies of different genres using natural voice commands, which the Apple TV is equipped to deliver via the iTunes App Store and Apple Music Library, along with online services like Netflix, Hulu or HBO.
While there’s also support for MFi-based third party controllers for serious gamers. Even the hardware gets a significant upgrade compared to previous gen Apple TVs, as it gets the A8 chipset found on the previous-gen iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. In addition, it also offers support for H.264 video at 1080p/60 fps, along with connectivity features such as plus 802.11ac Wi‑Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.0.
Components part of the package of the overall package include the set-top-box, a remote, a lightning-to-USB cable along with a power cord. Additional Siri remote will be available for $79 while extra ‘Remote Loops’ (wrist straps) for $12.99.
Hence, all in all, the new Apple TV seems to be a rather impressive package compared to other streaming media players currently available in the market, which include the likes of Amazon’s Fire TV, Roku, Android TV and others.
