The Nokia 3310 which formed one of the three comeback devices that Nokia had announced back in February is all set for an Indian launch on 17th May. We got to know of the date thanks to its listing in the site OnlyMobiles.com that also mentioned the price at Rs 3,899. The pre-booking process starts earlier on 5th May.
Interestingly, there is no official confirmation or announcements of any sort so far from HMD Global. That however didn’t stop the Indian retailer to list the latest two Nokia devices as well – Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 on its site though there are no prices mentioned as yet.
Coming back to the legendary Nokia 3310, the cute little device enjoys a cult status among its peers. It comes across as a modern avatar of its yesteryear version, incorporating many a pleasing feature. Those include a 2.4-inch color display, a microSD card slot and a 2 megapixel camera at the rear.
The handset’s best qualities however remain unchanged, or have been improved upon. Take for instance its robust build quality that has led many to adjudge it as a battle tank among phones of its class. Battery life also happens to be its another strong point, with the new 3310 capable of 22 hrs of talk time and a month of standby time, all from its 1200 mAh battery. Think of it as a Kindle among feature phones.
That is not all as the battery is user replaceable as well, as it happens with the feature phones of its class. Charging is affected by a microUSB port, which is convenient compared to the proprietary port on its predecessor.
The phone will be running the S30+ operating system and will host a modified Snake game, something that has perhaps become as famous as the phone itself. The original Nokia ringtone will also be there, all of which should be enough hark back to the good old days of yore.
All said, the 3310 will however serve as a secondary phone at best with your smartphone continuing to be the primary go-to device for most reasons. The phone comes with a 2G connections and lacks Wi-Fi capabilities. The best that the 3310 stands for include its battery life and solid build quality along with of course a generous dose of nostalgia.
Those again are also the reason the 3310 is likely to be a one-time affair only and might not have a prolonged run at the market, something that the original enjoyed.
