Facebook is now testing Apple’s Live Photos feature introduced with the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The social networking giant has announced that it’s letting a handful of users share their Live Photos, with general availability expected by next year.
Users need the latest iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S Plus to capture the Live Photos. However, it can be viewed on any iPhone or iPad running the latest iOS 9 which shows video and audio moments before a picture is taken. Apple’s new Live Photos essentially gives still images more depth and context making your photos come to life which otherwise wouldn’t be possible.
Once the Live Photos feature rolls out for all Facebook users, they’ll be able to view these Live Photos via the Facebook app for iOS on their iPhones or iPads. Users will notice a peculiar Live Photos icon while sharing and browsing. Uploading Live Photos is the same as uploading any other photo on Facebook, though with Live Photos users will have to check the lower right corner of the photo, where it says “Live”.
Apple hasn’t yet rolled out support for Live Photos on other platforms, as the feature only works on iOS devices running the latest iOS 9.
Earlier this month, Tumblr announced support for Live Photos becoming the first major social network to announce support for the Live Photos. The new Tumblr v5.0 update for iOS also allows iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus owners to share Live Photos directly onto the network without the need for any additional tweaks.
