Xiaomi has introduced the Mi 9 which would take over the mantle of the company’s flagship phone from the Mi 8 which was launched around the middle of last year. The basic strategy, however, remains the same, that of offering more for less, with the new Mi 9 promising flagship levels of performance for just $445.
That would be a steal considering that the Mi 9 comes powered by the new Snapdragon 855 chipset, which again is being considered a generation ahead of its predecessor, the Snapdragon 845. Primary differentiator here being the 7nm manufacturing process that the new SD 855 conforms to compared to 10nm LPP that the SD845 related to. And apart from the performance benefits, one huge advantage with the SD855 will be its less inclination to sip battery power.
Also, with SD 855 being common across the entire Mi 9 range, the base version will come with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage and is the one that will cost $445. Then there also is the version with 6 GB of memory along with the same 128 gigs of storage and will retail for $490. The top of the line model will come with 12 GB of RAM along with 256 GB of storage and is going to retail for $600.
Another nifty feature the Mi 9 will come with include a dedicated game mode named Game Turbo. And the best thing with the feature is that it gets activated automatically when a game is launched and ensures the phone maintains the optimum performance of the processor for a longer period than would have otherwise been possible. The benefits to be seen right away is enhanced frame rates along with peak performance of course.
For optics, the Mi 9 comes with a triple lens camera at the rear comprising of a 48 mp f/1.75 shooter complemented by a 16 mp wide angle lens and 12 mp telephoto lens. Then there also is a 20 mp selfie shooter at the front as well. Also, for those who’d like to have an idea of the Mi 9’s shooting abilities, the phone returned DxOMark scores of 107 which betters those of the Pixel 3 or the Note 9.
